Please note: we are only taking virtual clients at the moment.

We work with clients on Zoom or Facetime.

Jane Marshall, owner and head trainer of Cheery Dogs, has been helping families in the Durham-Chapel Hill area train and solve their dog problems for over 30 years.

Our trainers are experienced working with problems such as house training, fear based behaviors, leash reactivity and dog to dog and people aggression. We also love cats, and can help your new family members adjust to each other. Reward based behavior modification is used to resolve any problem you are struggling with.

Helping families with children and their new dog or puppy is an area we specialize in. Our trainers can help you set up for a new baby and provide you with the resources to help minimize strife at this busy stage of life. Science based positive training is used to help your dog learn manners around smaller family members.

Cheery dogs training is recommended by local veterinarians, shelters and rescues.

We do NOT use prong collars, shock collars or any aversive training methods. All training is force free.

We look forward to helping you with your family pets.

Do you have a new puppy?

PLEASE NOTE:  Cheery Dogs has NO group classes in 2025. Email us for other puppy class recommendations.

Our puppy program is very popular! We have Puppy Primer Class for puppies over 10 lbs and between 9 -14 weeks of age.

We have Tiny Puppy Class for small breed puppies under 10 lbs. Tiny puppies may be up to 8 months if they are dog friendly and expected to still be under 10 lbs by the end of the class.

Check the calendar for classes.

If you have had your puppy 10 days, plus one set of shots you are ready to start. Graduates of Puppy classes (and puppies 4 months and older who have not attended a class) move up to Puppy Plus or K9 Manners.

Bring your puppy to class and give him/her the gift of a good education with lots of socialization.

Please also check out the helpful articles and videos for puppies in our Resources Section
